I (29M) am big into achievement hunting. I like playing games thoroughly, going for 100%, and pushing myself to complete challenges—even the tough or time-consuming ones. It’s not just about the gamer score or trophy count, it’s the satisfaction of truly finishing a game.
One of my longtime friends (let’s call him Mark) and I used to game together all the time, especially on co-op games like Borderlands, Halo, or even Souls-likes with summoning. But lately, I’ve stopped playing with him. Why? Because he actively avoids achievements. Like if a mission says “don’t kill any civilians” or “beat it without dying,” he’ll purposely ignore it and say “That’s too much work, who cares.”
It got to the point where I’d replay full levels solo after playing with him, just to clean up what we missed. So I started telling him I’d rather play alone or with people who care about completing stuff too. He got pissed and said I was being a “tryhard,” ruining the fun, and that not every game has to be a checklist.
Now a few of our mutual friends are saying I should just chill and enjoy the game, not everything has to be min-maxed or 100%-ed. But to me, that is the fun.
AITA for refusing to game with him if he doesn’t take achievements seriously?
