I (26F) have been best friends with Maya (25F) since we were 14. We’ve been through a lot together, like family problems, breakups, mental health stuff, everything. I care about her a lot, but I’m honestly questioning our friendship after what happened last month.

Maya’s been dating Jordan (27M) for about a year and a half. He’s a good guy. He’s nice, funny, and really likes her. I’ve always been happy for her, thinking he’s someone who treats her well.

A few weeks ago, Maya told me she cheated on Jordan while she was on a “girls trip” to Miami. She said it was a one-time thing, she was drunk, and it “didn’t mean anything.” I was shocked, but I didn’t yell at her. I told her she needed to tell him the truth because he deserved to know. She promised she would.

A few days later, Jordan called me. He was upset and asked if Maya was with us the whole time during the trip. He saw something on social media that didn’t add up. I froze. In that moment, Maya had told me to lie for her if he asked, and I panicked and lied.

But the guilt was eating at me. I’ve been cheated on before, and I know how it feels when people lie to you. So, a few days later, I called Jordan back and told him the truth. I didn’t go into all the details, but I told him Maya wasn’t where she said she was and that she slept with someone else.

Maya found out and freaked out. She said I “betrayed her trust” and “ruined her life.” She blocked me on everything, and now our whole friend group is split. Some people say I did the right thing, that I was looking out for Jordan and being honest. Others say I had no right to get involved, that it wasn’t my relationship, and I should’ve stayed out of it.

But I didn’t do it to hurt her. I just couldn’t live with the lie.

So, AITA?
