📝 AITAH for abandoning clothing with a tailor who’s over charging?

Background- I’ve lost 95lbs. I’ve been slowly buying clothes in smaller and smaller sizes however whenever I thought I was at my end weight I would lose more (so the wardrobe I bought in a size 4 doesn’t fit me). I’ve actually bought most of my clothes second hand to help offset the cost.

The particular pieces I’m debating abandoning are a pair of shorts I paid $25 for and a formal dress (short) I got for $14. I got them for an upcoming trip however, neither of them fit me anymore. So I looked up tailors in my area and found this one. Every single review raved about their skill level and low prices. Like every single review mentioned the fair prices. So I figured why not?

The day of my appointment I show up and she tells me I need to come back in 15 minutes because she didn’t realize she needed to drop off her kid at school……..okay. I had planned my work day around this appointment but I made it work. I came back and was able to go through the appointment. The shorts she made abundantly clear all she would do is add some darts to make them fit “a little better”. I told her if it wasn’t do able or if it would be too much that I would just take them home as I mentioned I paid next to nothing for them and didn’t wish to spend too much altering them if it wasn’t going to be worth it. She insisted she could do it. No price was given. I was sent along my way.

I received a text last night that my clothing was ready to be picked up. She told me it would be $80 total for the two pieces. I was flabbergasted. $80 for a short dress and a pair of shorts. I told my husband and he agreed that seemed nonsensical. For reference I had a bridesmaids gown tailored in New York for $25- a GOWN and this woman wants to charge $20 for the shorts and $60 for the short dress.

Because I paid so little for the pieces I’m debating just not going to pick them up. The other option is biting the bullet, paying the obscene price but then making it known on the google page that prices are in fact NOT low. What would you do in this situation? AITAH if I just left them there?
