📝 AITAH for calling out a roommate for a small lie

So me (22F) and my roommates were just in our apartment and I was walking down the hall when my roommate ‘Kelly’ (23F) says “Ow I just tripped.” This spot that she claimed to have tripped at is an area that she always complains she strips since it’s where the floor switches from carpet to wood. I was walking right behind Kelly and watched her not trip and just walk normally. I wasn’t even thinking when I said “Huh? No you didn’t.” Kelly was visibly angry and then says “Yes I did” but I insisted “I was right behind you though?” Again, I really didn’t think about it in the moment since I was just confused.

The hallway leads into the living room/kitchen area so our other roommate Lily and Kelly’s boyfriend heard this and then Lily was like “Wait Kelly why would you lie about tripping?” And Kelly kept insisting that she did trip, but Lily and her boyfriend didn’t believe her. Lily also asked if she had been lying about tripping on this spot the whole time. Lily and I went out for dinner since this triggered an argument between Kelly and her boyfriend. Kelly is now not talking to either me or Lily and is always slamming doors since she’s upset. I’ve tried drafting an apology but it always comes out awful since it basically sounds like “Sorry I called you out for lying.”

So now I feel bad since I probably embarrassed her and also started a fight, but also not really since she literally did not trip. AITAH?
