📝 AITAH for dumping my sister's best friend because I'm being deployed and don’t trust her loyalty?

So, here’s the situation. I (28 M) have been dating my sister's best friend, Emily (23F), for about six months. We've had a fun relationship, but I've recently received orders for deployment in a couple of months. Now, I know Emily and my sister (22F) are super close, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that if I’m away for a while, Emily might start seeing someone else.

I mean, I’d be halfway across the world, and let's be real, it’s not like they’ll have a “Miss Loyalty” contest while I'm gone, right? I love my sister and trust her implicitly, but I’ve watched enough rom-coms to know that best friends and military boyfriends can lead to some interesting plot twists.

So, I sat Emily down and awkwardly threw all my concerns at her, like I was debating her in a courtroom. Something like, “So, since I'm being deployed, you probably will find some tall, handsome guy with an accent and six-pack abs, and that would make me super sad.” She laughed and said that she’d never do that, but my mind was already made up. I told her we should break things off before I left so she could have a chance to live her life, and honestly so I wouldn’t be worrying about it.

Now, I’ve done it. My sister is furious with me, calling me “paranoid” and “ridiculously dramatic.” Emily seems hurt but understands to an extent. I just feel like I did the right thing by removing myself from a potentially messy situation.

So, AITAH for breaking up with my sister's best friend because I don’t trust her loyalty while I'm deployed?
