I (18F) and my dad (56M) have never gotten along well but I try to cooperate with him as best I can. It has been rocky since I was little. The only thing I have ever gotten along with him on is our shared love of music and animals.

Ever since I have gotten a cat it's almost been chaos when it comes to my father. My cat is 13 and I love the large guy massively but my father seems to not understand how to take care of a cat! I'll just call my cat MR for the sake of making Grammer easier since I always call him by name.

My father gives MR wet food twice a day and that is his only responsibility when it comes to MR because my dad gets up before I do otherwise I fill his food bowl, brush him, and handle the litter box.

The first incident was my father was giving MR a bunch of treats all in a little clump which was causing MR to gulp them all down then get sick.

The second incident was when my father decided to keep MR off the table so he covered it in tin foil and well MR freaked out and had a seizure (the 2nd since we first got him) even though I yelled at my dad not to use tin foil.

Now finally the thing that has me at my breaking point. My father said MR needed his ears cleaned so what does he do but use the same thing he uses to clean his own ears and POURED RUBBING ALCOHOL INTO OUR CATS EARS WHILE HOLDING HIM DOWN!

As soon as I came out of my room I did scream at him when he explained what he did my exact words had been "what is wrong with you, a simple Google search would have told you that you should not do that! A cats ears are very sensitive and if you hurt him I will never forgive you." Well now my father refuses to speak to me. I never expected to get an apology because he has never apologized to me for anything ever but am I the asshole for yelling at him or should I just apologize so we are back on proper speaking terms?
