📝 AITAH for getting mad that my boyfriend’s “family emergency” was just him sneaking off to audition for a reality tv show without telling me?

i (22f) have been dating my boyfriend (24m) for a little over a year. a couple weeks ago, he told me his cousin had been in an accident and he needed to fly out of state to “help the family.” obviously, i was worried and told him to keep me updated. he barely texted, but i figured he was just busy with everything going on.

well. turns out there was no accident. no cousin. no emergency. he was in la auditioning for a reality dating show — and not just any show, but one where they pretend to be single and “find love” in front of cameras. i only found out because my roommate’s friend works in casting and saw his name and face on a call sheet.

i confronted him the second he got back. he admitted it. he said it was a “once in a lifetime opportunity” and he didn’t tell me because he knew i’d get upset. i asked him if he planned to actually go on the show, and he said, “i don’t know, maybe. it’s good exposure either way.”

EXPOSURE?? i’m not a stepping stone for his influencer career. i broke up with him on the spot and now he’s telling everyone i’m dramatic and “unsupportive” and that it was all just for fun and not that serious.

some of our mutual friends are saying i overreacted because he didn’t actually cheat, but i feel like he was planning to. or at least open to it.

AITAH for ending things over this? or was this just insane behavior on his part?
