Background both my parents are immigrants and have been in the US for around 20 years. My mother is going in for a job interview tomorrow after recuperating from a surgery and doesn’t want to a a stay at home mom anymore. They can pick up one some English words but my dad is significantly better than my mom. They wanted me to go with them to translate during the interview. This might not seem like a lot to ask but it’s early in the morning and I have lecture to attend, the interview is at 10 and I have to be out the door by eleven. The thing is I feel like they aren’t making the effort to learn English with all the great resources and ways to learn it I feel like it’s not too much to ask of them. Spanish was my first language too but within a year of kindergarten I got a hang of it. I feel like the time my mom stayed at home she could have at least learned how to form a sentence. I love them but I’m not going to be home forever I’m already 20 and they rely too much on me as a translator and I don’t want this to be pushed onto my younger brother(3year gap). So AITAH for not going to my mom’s job interview and going to lecture instead.
