i (23f) am getting married to my fiancé liam (25m) in a couple of months, and we’ve been together for about two years. everything’s been great, and we’ve been planning this wedding for months. i’ve been friends with grace (24f) since we were kids, and we’ve always been super close. or, at least, we were until recently.

we were out for drinks a few weeks ago when the topic of the wedding came up, and i mentioned how excited i was about the dress i picked. grace, out of nowhere, started making sarcastic comments about how “over-the-top” my wedding was going to be and how my fiancé wasn’t “good enough for me.” at first, i thought she was joking, but she kept going. she mocked liam for his job, calling him “basic” and saying that he “didn’t match my vibe.”

i was stunned. i’ve never heard her talk like that about him, and it was hurtful. i tried to brush it off, but it just kept nagging at me. when i confronted her about it later, she just laughed and said she was “just being honest” and that i shouldn’t take things so personally. i told her i didn’t appreciate her comments and that i wanted her to respect my relationship. she didn’t apologize and just said it was “no big deal.”

after a lot of thinking, i decided not to invite her to the wedding. i don’t want someone there who doesn’t respect my fiancé, and i felt like she wasn’t genuinely happy for me. when i told her the news, she got upset and said i was “overreacting” and that she had every right to voice her opinion.

now, my other friends are saying i’m being dramatic and that i should let it go because she’s my long-time friend. but i honestly don’t feel comfortable having her at my wedding after how she treated liam.
