📝 AITAH for refusing to share the location of a “secret” gas station that still sells cheap fuel?

So there’s this small, privately owned gas station on the outskirts of town that still sells gas for WAY cheaper than anywhere else. Like, I’m talking a full 80 cents less per gallon. It’s cash-only, no signs, and kinda hidden behind an industrial lot. You’d only find it if someone told you or you accidentally stumbled on it.

I found it by complete accident about six months ago when I got lost trying to avoid traffic. Since then, I’ve only ever seen two or three cars there when I fill up, and I’ve been using it regularly without issue. It’s been a massive help since I have a long commute and I’m on a tight budget.

Anyway, a coworker (let’s call him Jake) overheard me joking about “my secret cheap gas spot” during lunch and pressed me about it. I said it was just a small place I found and left it at that. He kept asking, so I finally told him it was somewhere outside of town but didn’t give the exact name or location.

Now he’s annoyed and keeps calling me selfish for not telling him. He says we’re all struggling with prices and I should want to help others out. I said I was just trying to keep it low-key so the place doesn’t get overwhelmed and either jack up prices or run dry like everything else. He called me paranoid and said I was gatekeeping gas like it’s a treasure map.

I told him he could just look around like I did, or ask people — I’m not the gas fairy. He’s now told others at work and some coworkers have started making little jabs, calling me “Scrooge McPump” and stuff like that. One even asked if I’d start charging admission to use the bathroom next.

It’s become this weird office thing now, and I feel like I’m being treated like an asshole just for wanting to protect a resource that’s genuinely helping me survive.
