Hey y’all. So I (23F), half Filipina, live alone in Florida and work two jobs, babysitter during the day and bartender at night. Gotta hustle, you know?

Anyway, I’ve been babysitting this sweet 5 y/o girl, Ava, for about 4 months now. Her mom, Samantha, is a single mom and super career-focused, which I respect. She found me through a local FB group and I’ve always shown up on time, never had any issues with Ava, and even helped her through a nasty stomach bug once. So, things have been chill… until last week.

I show up in my usual outfit, nothing wild, just a fitted tee, high-waisted jeans, sneakers, and a little makeup (I go straight to the bar after). Samantha pulls me aside and says she’s “concerned about the message my appearance sends.” I was confused as hell. She said I “look too sexy to be around her husband on his off days” (they’re divorced btw but he visits Ava occasionally) and asked if I could “dress more modestly and wear less makeup.”

I was honestly stunned. Like… wtf, I’m watching your daughter, not tryna seduce anyone. I told her I wouldn’t change how I look because I’m still professional, I’m good at my job, and it ain’t my fault her ex can’t act right if that’s the issue. She didn’t say anything, just gave me a weird look and left.

Now she’s been distant, late on payment, and even hinted at looking for someone else. My friends are split, some say I should’ve just thrown on sweats and avoided drama, others say Samantha was outta line and lowkey insecure.

So… AITAH for refusing to “tone it down” while babysitting?
