I was walking my dog like I usually do, and we ended up at a grassy field near my house. After my dog did his business, I began searching for the bag, only to realize I didn’t have one, it must have fallen out of my pocket. Since it was an open field and not a sidewalk or a busy path, I thought it would be alright to leave it there for now and come back to clean it up on our next walk.
As I was leaving, an older woman who lives in a nearby apartment and was doing her morning walk started shouting at me "I'm going to report you! The bag isn't going to appear by itself! Why don't you have one?"
At that moment, I was already stressed out and overwhelmed with studying for exams and taking care of other personal matters (and honestly just frustrated, because she’s seen me plenty of times before picking up after my dog). Without thinking, I snapped and said, "Your mother didn’t have a bag to pick you up when you came out of her either, but I guess everyone makes mistakes."
She looked stunned, holding back tears, and stormed off angrily. AITAH for reacting that way? Should I apologize next time I see her?
