I 35M and my husband 38M are currently in a situation. Here's some backstory for context.
For the last couple of weeks my husband, who I'll call Spock, has been complaining about hearing a high frequency tone.
The issue: no one else can really hear it. Those who do say it's similar to hearing electricity or an old school tube tv turn on (Ie something that if they pay attention to can vaguely hear it, but otherwise it gets lost in the symphony of life.)
Bigger issue: Spock is utterly convinced it's malicious and intentional. Believing our neighbor is knowingly causing it, and even adjust the volume of the sound according to his movements.
Bigger Bigger issue: he's convinced himself that this neighbor has gone as far as having someone follow him as he works for Uber.
Here's where I may be the a++hole.
I've been trying my best to be supportive, after all technically the sound exists. But everything else just seems.... paranoid. Frankly, that's a bit concerning. But I've told him to do a multitude of things, but mainly ignore it. Lately to give it up and get over it.
After all if someone was truly trying to stalk/spy/whatever him, then they don't have that much of a life. And that if he continues to hyperficate, it will consume him. All logical, or even therocatical attempts to sway him from his obsession have gone unheard or have had rebuttal.
So am I the a++hole?
Sincerely, Confused Husband
