I recently cleaned out my old room because I'll be moving in with my boyfriend soon and while cleaning I found my old makeup box I used from highschool. I found this old lip gloss that I used to use a lot in my late freshman year and throughout sophomore year, but I could tell that it was kinda dirty but I still wanted to try it on (big mistake).

I got a reaction since it's expired and the brush I'm sure is also dirty. I just wanted to try it on since it was my favorite back then. I thought it would be funny to tell my boyfriend about it but he immediately got mad and said herpes and hung up the phone. I clearly don't have that and it's literally one singular small bump on my lip and it's obviously from the fact I used old makeup.

I kept calling him a few times after he hung up the phone because I was genuinely confused on why that pissed him off so much. Eventually he stayed on the phone for a bit and said to use common sense. I feel like I know what it is but it seems petty. Back in highschool I had a abusive ex who wouldn't let me wear makeup because "I'll get attention" from other guys. So I would wear lip gloss or mascara at school so he wouldn't find out or get mad but whenever he'd ask for a selfie I'd wipe the gloss off because even lipgloss he didn't want me wearing (we went to different highschools)

I just wanted to feel more feminine considering I had really short hair in freshman year and everyone thought I was a guy. That gloss made me feel pretty when my hair got longer. I never wore it whenever I would see my ex because even if I was with him absolutely no makeup was allowed, so there's no way I could've gotten "herpes" from trying on the gloss years later. It's simply old makeup.

So AITAH? It bothers me how my boyfriends mad at me for that and I'm pretty sure he's thinking about my ex (which I haven't had contact with in years ever since we broke up)
