Boyfriend (M27) and I (F30) have been together for a total of three years — one year long-distance and two years in person. We originally knew each other during my senior year of high school. He is physically disabled due to being born with bilateral clubfoot.

When we first got together, he was extremely sweet and endearing, and he promised he would provide for me in any way he could. Fast forward to today, and there’s been no follow-through.

He won’t even check on his SSA to find out why they cut his check by $150. He lied about planning to go back to school. He won’t check to see if his car is having issues. He barely does his own laundry. He plays video games for 10–12 hours a day, has terrible hygiene (sometimes going days without showering and wearing the same clothes), and is rude to me daily — cussing during simple disagreements and belittling me.

He’s also extremely disrespectful toward his father, whom we live with. To give an example of how he treats me: when I was sick and throwing up in the ER, he called me “disgusting” because I wouldn’t give up my hospital bed for him.

Some days he can be nice, and other days he is downright cruel. I’m left feeling confused and questioning myself. I just want to know — am I making the right choice by considering leaving?
