Hi I'm 23f I have a friend who's 24f and we've been friends since we was 3/4 recently she found a group of hamsters in a box and was determined to take them in and make sure they was okay as they seemed younger out of the 5 only 4 got along and after seeing how well me and splodge got along (he instantly loved me no clue why since it has never happened before) she wanted me to take him home with me I had a few reasons on why I didn't want like they was found on the street and I've always been told they need atleast a friend and only one hamster could lead to death due to sadness or something and lastly I don't know anything about hamsters at all
She told me that since splodge always had to be separated because the others hated him she thought it would still be safer and I could attempt to introduce him and another hamster later on in the month and not to worry about him being ill or carrying diseases because she had them all checked up on at the vets
So I bring him home and the first night he wasnt very happy (small space as wasn't prepared) so next day I went and got everything he needed and started to properly bond and love this little thing he would watch TV and just lie on me not even moving if I'd get up and walk around so I assumed he was just really adjusted to me a few weeks later he dies and I'm heartbroken but I understand this stuff happens and I was told hamsters are prone to dying and they don't last long so I get him all wrapped up and buried next to my old family pets that didn't survive and then I watch what I assumed was his favourite movie(he'd start making noise)
Anyways fast forward to a couple days after and another friend 24f come round to see if I'm alright as I can take animal death way more harder then humans one (idk why) and this is when she Infromed me he never did go to the vets and she isn't even sure if there is hamster vets so I ring my other friend who gave me the hamster and confront her on if she gave me a hamster she didn't know would make it or not and she admitted it was true she didn't even bother getting them checked because she "knew" they was okay so I may of overreacted by asking her how she could be so incompetent to get another pet and not bother about the health on these either she told me it's not her fault and I told her it is her fault because if there was a chance of survival it was her that made them rates drop to 0% by making me thinking he was okay and got the all clear for everything our mutal friends think I'm in the wrong for being over dramatic about the hamster but to me it's the principle of getting animals and not looking after it and giving them away and not warning anyone anyways aitah
