Ok so get past the ticketing security person at 7:40, flight is 8:30 so all good. There are two lines to get through the TSA had screening thing. It's me (41M) and wife and a 7 and 4 YO. Wife goes to closer line. Likes are equal. Ours isn't moving. After like two minutes I join back of other line.
Then a dude gets behind me and says, "make up your mind yet"? I was taken aback a bit and then said "yeah idk my wife is stubborn trying to convince her to join me".
AH: ok well if they join you I'm going to jump in front of you
Me: no you're not. We were collectively here first
AH: well I'm late for my flight
(And here's where it's abundantly clear he's an AH)
Me: oh man ok what times your flight (Asking bc we also don't have tons of time to get food for kids for flight and coffee for wife etc)
AH: none of your business
Me: ok I mean I'm genuinely asking bc if yours is before ours you can just go ahead of me right now.
AH: DONT TALK TO ME
ME: dude I'm serious if your flight is before 8:30 just go ahead really it's not a problem.
AH: I said don't talk to me.
Went back and forth twice more and wife intervened saying just shut up to me basically.
Ok so dude is obviously a douche nozzle. My question is am I also? Like given there were exactly two lines, is it ok to keep our spot in both and move to the faster one?
Logically, we're harming the second line I joined if indeed mine is faster. The counterpoint is that that line SHOULD have more people if it really is faster, and it does less harm to that line compared to the benefit of the slow line losing three people (since the per person rate is faster adding three adds less total time then the three slower processing times in old line).
Anyway, please help. Obviously my wife thinks I'm an AH, and I kind of see her point !!
Editing to add:
Customs line is how it should be. ONE HUGE LINE and as soon as a spot opens up they send you to be next. So it takes out the luck of choosing well or poorly
