My husband, an amateur golfer, chose to wear his Apple Watch instead of his Rolex to golf today. When I asked (because I think it’s important to use the nice things we invest in, so ulterior motive) why he wore his Apple Watch today, he said, “because it tells me where i am in relation to the green.” I chuckled because he’s an amateur golfer so I’m doubtful the watch really helped his game. It’s wasn’t the kindest thing to do, but I was admittedly picking fun. Then he told me to “behave.” I said that wasn’t a phrase he should tell women. He was immediately triggered and asked why. I said, it’s steeped in sexism and gender norms. He says I’m being ridiculous. I honestly don’t fault him for coming back at me to picking fun, but how does he not see how this phrase is so charged and entirely inappropriate?
