This happened recently so im still emotional but here goes. 

My mom’s boyfriend is our neighbor, and he has large dogs. Today without asking him my mom brought the two dogs to our house without leashes and one of them attacked one of my cats injuring her. She ran into hiding right after and I cant find her so I wasn’t able to check but I’m pretty sure she was hurt severely, idk if she will survive. My mom’s bf came over and gave me a very insincere apology and then laughed, then quickly left. Idk if he was nervous or what but this came off as very rude to me so I said I’m calling animal control. 

I know they would see me as an asshole and he would probably resent me forever if I called animal control and had his dogs taken away, and I would feel bad doing this out of revenge but I’m also trying to think of what’s in the best interest of my cats which I have a few of. I understand that this an honest mistake but I dont know for sure that they wont try to bring the dogs back saying theyre trained or something only to have this happen again. They also live fairly close so the dog could just come over here. 

I understand that this is an honest mistake that likely wont happen again and its just the instincts of a dog, but this is pretty serious and having the dog impounded or euthanized would make me feel much more secure about my cats safety. I know this is not okay even if it was a mistake and a lot of people would have already shot the dog for doing this. If I call animal control I will be seen as the asshole by both my mom and her bf but I feel like this is not an unreasonable response. Wibta if I followed through?
