I am having my 18th birthday in a couple of days, and because of that I was getting a birthday party hosted by me, only my friends and I.

Recently, I have gotten into a small car accident(no one hurt, just another car got dented), and a couple of days ago my car rolled on my sisters foot and it sprained. If it wasn’t for me responding quick it could’ve likely been worse.

Because of this I got very much punished, they said I deserve no 18th birthday nor birthday at all, I’m grounded and can only work after school, and my curfew is earlier(they have taken this back)

Later today, my family announced I will have a graduation celebrating after my birthday, but it will be less of my friends and more of my family.

I understand being punished, but I still think I deserve an 18th birthday celebration. I have good grades, I am dedicated to helping around the house, and I’m even gonna start paying my own car insurance, which has been something my dad has been covering.

I just want my birthday party and I’m very bitter about my family trying to celebrate me when they didn’t even want me to have a birthday. I don’t want to be a jerk and have my family come from afar to celebrate and I don’t show up, so would I be the asshole if I told my parents I’m not going to my graduation party if they don’t give me a birthday party?

Info: I’m fine without having either party, I think that I should be punished just not for this party and would be open to a different one.
